Moselle Electromobile: an experience which is based on the launch of the Smart ed, an electric vehicle with zero pollutant emission, « 100 % made IN Moselle » Moselle Electromobile finds its origin in the setting up of SMART France company, present in Hambach, close to Sarreguemines, since 1997 and supported from the outset by the Moselle Department Council. Moselle Development Agency had initiated, via its Stuttgart representation office and its contacts with MERCEDES-BENZ headquarter the negotiations which led to the implementation of this project. Today, 1,600 persons work on the Smartville site which includes the assembly unit as well as its major subcontractors. DAIMLER’s choice to reinforce the activity of the existing site by entrusting it with the exclusive manufacture of the electric version of the Smart For-Two is essential for the Moselle: it contributes to the development of the automotive sector and the creation and preservation of jobs. Mass marketing to the general public is scheduled from 2012. |
