TATA STEEL produces 108 m long rails at its Hayange site

The former SOGERAIL Company, created at Hayange in 1892, was the first French plant manufacturing rails. It was acquired 2 years ago by the Indian TATA STEEL group from the Anglo-Dutch CORUS Company. Today, this Moselle Company is the only one being able to manufacture rails of 108 m length.

The new site was inaugurated on September 29th by Gérard Glas, CEO of TATA STEEL France RAIL, and Paul Hodgson, Head of the Hayange production site, in the presence of numerous personalities. This extension project required an investment of 35 million euros by the Indian group which aims to become the European leader in the rail production sector. This investment enables the Hayange site, employing some 430 people, to meet the demands of its two major contractors, i.e. Réseau Ferré de France (French Railway Networks) and SNCF (National Railway Company), but also to consider some new development opportunities in Western Europe. By 2012, the Company will increase its production capacity to 340,000 tons of rails, in 80 different countries, all rails being adapted either to high speed lines or to the traditional lines of the European Railway network.
